Mariano Fassetta

Meet Mariano Fassetta.

Mariano has played for team Hanalei Bay at the San Diego Polo Club for 3 years.  Originally from Adrogue, Argentina, Mariano grew up riding horses and playing polo.

He has an impressive career, winning the USPA Spreckels Cup 6 times and playing polo all over the world.  He was on the cover of San Diego Polo Club Magazine in 2010 demonstrating a great offside neck shot.

Last year, one of his best horses, Paris, won Best Playing Pony in the USPA Spreckels Cup.  Out of the 48 horses we saw play in the Spreckels Cup Finals last October 3, Paris was the best horse on the field.  And you know what they say… “a polo player is only as good as his horse.”

As a player who leans on rituals to calm his nerves and bring him luck before matches, Mariano has abandoned his previous habit of wearing only red socks and the same underwear each game for a “left boot on first, left kneepad on first” regime.  (Thank goodness!)

Mariano, or known to us as “Fassetta,” loves to play music in his spare time, attend concerts, and spend time with his wife and friends.

Marshall Marshall Marshall!

We are busy with all types of events, but we’re hardly complaining!  We shot down to San Diego State University  on Friday night to attend the 3rd Annual Aztec For Life Homecoming Celebration presented by the Marshall Faulk Foundation.

We were introduced to the event by one of our arena polo members and retired SDSU mascot, Carlos Gutierrez.  Here is Carlos making an appearance at the Homecoming Game in 2010.

We tasted appetizers from some of San Diego’s best restaurants, including our neighbors Pamplemousse and Tommy V’s!  Our favorite was JSix’s yellowtail sashimi tartar with tastes of currant, olive tapenade, and pine nuts coated in a citrus vinaigrette.  It was heavenly!  You can order it off their dinner/ happy hour menu!

The silent auction ended and Marshall Faulk spoke on stage about the importance of the event and how lucky he’s been to be a part of SDSU’s Alumni.  The event raised over $50,000 for YMCA and SDSU Scholarships for young athletes.

Here is our Creative Director, Lindsey Chronert, her boyfriend and Marshall Faulk.

Hey polo fans!

The San Diego Polo Club just finished up an extremely successful season, with record breaking attendance, wonderful advertisers, and players from around the world, including Mexico, Argentina, New Zealand, etc.

During the off-season, we are going to wet your polo palette and keep you itching for the 2011 season.  We will showcase all the Polo Events we attend, what we liked about each club and a little insight why you might want to vacation out to watch matches in different parts of the world.

The San Diego Polo Club is always willing to donate tickets and lessons to local events that support charities or are trying to raise money for a worthy cause.  You will find posts made by the San Diego Polo Club offering discounts on tickets to charity events, as well as a recap of those events we had the pleasure of attending.

Stay tuned…
